While most participants in this 1st edition of the NetSuite Test Automation Study hailed from IT, we feel that we had a good cross-section of NetSuite implementation sizes.
A majority of companies in our survey had their initial NetSuite deployment for more than 24 months, and their environment required integration with third party applications (e.g., other e-commerce and CRM systems, proprietary systems, etc.). Most were also adhering to some form of development and testing methodology (e.g., Agile, DevOps, or Lean).
Here are some highlights from the findings of the study:
- No one outside of IT thinks that IT has authority over NetSuite related investments. Only people within IT report IT having that authority.
- Even though many participants report testing for compliance and risk, especially IT change management compliance, most NetSuite related investments are based on traditional cost analysis and ROI.
- The biggest barrier to implementing NetSuite test automation seems to be finding time to evaluate solutions – especially in environments where IT departments are under constant pressure to roll out new features.
- Even within companies that report having test plans in place, people outside of IT are less likely to think that testing is being done.
